Embracing Moments

Living in the Here and Now

‘There is only one moment in which you can live, and it is this one. To embrace life, embrace this moment.’ ~Dean Jackson

As we begin the New Year, we are bombarded by the news of Omicron cases surging all over the world. It’s easy to be disheartened by the uncertainty of what lies ahead. With so much out of our control, it can leave us feeling anxious, fearful and stressed out. Yes, you can’t control all things in your life but you can choose to embrace each moment as it comes along. Life is all about snippets of moments experienced over time. Appreciating every one of these moments, whether you perceive it as good or bad, is part and parcel of the collective human experience that ties us together. Whatever it is you are experiencing in this moment, know that you are not alone. Each moment is temporary and it shall pass. Despite all the uncertainty around us, embracing each moment allows you to connect with the present, as it is, with acceptance, grace and gratitude. We hope you will embrace more moments of joy, love and gratitude in 2022.

Tips to Embrace Moments

Embrace and Accept Uncertainty

As quoted by Jo Emerson, ‘If there’s one thing I’ve come to terms with and accepted in recent years it’s that the only certainty in life is uncertainty.’ You may not be able to control every aspect of your life but you can choose to focus on things that you are in control of, such as your thoughts, emotions, perceptions and actions.

Embrace Moments in Nature

Take some time to get outside and immerse yourself in nature. Research has shown that forest bathing can help reduce symptoms of depression, fatigue, and anxiety. Make sure to connect with Mother Nature through all your senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. By engaging with your surroundings, you get closer to the natural world that surrounds you.

Embrace Gratitude Rituals

Being grateful for even the smallest moments in your life will make a significant difference. Whether it is moments with your family or friends, your home, the pets in your life or the food you eat, embracing and giving gratitude for these things makes us more appreciative of the simple things in our life. Start a gratitude journal and write out all the things you are grateful for.

Embrace Moments of Movement

Moving your body on a regular basis allows you to be in the present moment and experience how your body feels as you move. Bring awareness to the forefront as you move by simply paying attention to the sensation of the breath or how the body is feeling.

Embrace Moments of Relaxation & Calm

Embracing moments of relaxation and calm is imperative to your overall well-being. Try this Breathing exercise by Lucy to diminish anxiety and embrace a moment of calm and relaxation. You can also try meditation, yoga or taking a candlelit bath. Whatever calming activity you choose, make sure to carve out some time on a daily basis, with no distractions.

Embrace Moments of Joy

Take 5-minutes of your day to fully embrace and connect with moments of joy. Close your eyes, take a few breaths and recall a time when you experienced a moment of joy in your life. It could be a conversation you had wth someone, or some other experience. Smile to yourself as you invite this memory into your minds eye and totally immerse yourself in this experience.
